We at Provenance Meals are happy to see that the Paleo diet is not just a passing fad. Quite the opposite, as we see the rise in popularity of Paleo blogs, cookbooks, and restaurant options! Just Say No To Gmos
Did you know that almost all the corn, soy, canola and sugar beets grown in the United States have been genetically modified? And that GMOs are in as much as 80% of conventional processed foods? Quick Turmeric Tonic
Part of my morning ritual involves a mug of hot lemon water, especially in the winter. I drink it first thing upon waking to help flush toxins from my body and provide a healthy dose of Vitamin C. Lately, I've been adding a bit of fresh ginger, turmeric and cayenne to my hot lemon water, adding a nice kick and amping up the detoxifying and anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. It takes just a minute to prepare but sets a healthy tone for the rest of my day. Give it a try and let me know how you like it!

Farmer Spotlight: Norwich Meadows Farm
The growing season is in full swing and we've been getting the majority of our seasonal produce and eggs these days from Norwich Meadows Farm in upstate NY. Norwich Meadows Farm is a certified organic farm growing produce, poultry and eggs. You might recognize the name if you've ever been to the Greenmarket at Union Square or Tompkins Square.
I am a firm believer in cooking. To paraphrase Michael Pollan, I believe it may be the single most important thing we can do to improve our health and general well-being. As a health counselor, I know that eating nutritious whole foods, or “clean” foods free of the major potential toxins (such as gluten, dairy and refined sugar) is the fastest shortcut to feeling well, as my clients will testify.
Upgrade To Raw Honey
The health benefits of raw honey are substantial. It's a superfood that provides antioxidants, minerals, vitamins, amino acids, enzymes, carbohydrates, and phytonutrients. It fights bacteria, builds the immune system, and provides energy. You can use it topically on cuts, burns and even warts! When my son has a cut or a scrape, I put a dab of raw honey on it and a Spiderman band-aid. Then he gets a spoonful of the honey to make him feel better. Raw honey does cost more but I think the health benefits make it a no-brainer.
