We are fanatics when it comes to hydration. Water truly is the elixir of life. Proper hydration helps our bodies regulate temperature, lubricate our joints, fight infections, and more. Many of us may also be familiar with the importance of staying hydrated when it comes to an anti-aging and beauty routine. Water helps keep your skin supple, dense, and elastic which prevents the development of fine lines. Not to mention that water is crucial to nail and hair health as well. But today we're exploring another key benefit of staying hydrated - weight loss.
According to Medical News Today, water is a key component to helping your body burn fat. It helps us to metabolize, or use, stored fats and carbohydrates. Water is also highly important for our digestive system and helps our kidneys flush out toxins and other wastes. When these toxins and wastes do not get removed properly, it can cause bloating, swelling, and fatigue. Some research also shows that water can act as a natural appetite suppressant. Often times when you feel hungry, it could be your body signaling it is thirsty. One of our favorite leaders in functional medicine, Dr. Mark Hyman, has even said that water is “the secret miracle weight loss drink.”
But in addition to drinking water throughout the day, did you know that the Institute of Medicine reports 20% of our water consumption comes from foods in our daily diet? Our chefs work with our in-house nutrition experts to develop balanced meals brimming with ultra-hydrating ingredients. Here are some of our favorites:
Cucumbers
Zucchini
Tomatoes
Radishes
Celery
Broccoli
Jicama
Leafy Greens (Chard, Spinach, Lettuce)
Bell Peppers
Asparagus
Keeping our clients hydrated is one of the foundations of our nutrition philosophy. We’ve designed both our programs for weight loss - the Provenance Detox and Feel Good Fix - to help flood your body with nutrients and hydration from the plant-based meals but also the herbal teas and chia frescas.
We believe true health - and losing weight - is so much more than calories in versus calories out. You have to take a look at the entire picture and a more holistic approach... are you sleeping, how is your mood, what are your energy levels throughout the day? And it all starts with water and proper hydration as the foundation of a health-focused daily routine. So drink up and remember to stay hydrated throughout the day with food.
